At Birmingham CBCT & OPG Hub we provide a full range of dental imaging services for patients and referring dentists across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. All scans are carried out at 341 Birmingham Road, Great Barr, Birmingham B43 7AP, with fast reporting and straightforward booking.
CBCT scan – Birmingham
Cone Beam CT (CBCT) scans produce a 3D image of the jaws and surrounding structures. They are particularly useful for dental implants, complex extractions, endodontics and assessment of vital anatomy such as the mandibular canal and maxillary sinus.
We offer focused and larger field-of-view scans depending on the clinical question, following IRMER guidance and the ALARA principle (as low as reasonably achievable).
OPG / panoramic dental X-ray
An OPG (orthopantomogram) is a panoramic X-ray showing all the teeth, jaws and surrounding bone in a single image. It is often used for general assessment, orthodontic planning, wisdom teeth, missing teeth, and periodontal bone levels.
OPG scans are quick, comfortable and usually take just a few seconds of exposure.
Dental CT scan – complex cases
For complex or multidisciplinary cases, a wider field-of-view CBCT can be used as a “dental CT scan” to visualise both jaws, sinuses and surrounding structures. This can support implant planning, orthognathic surgery planning and assessment of pathology.
We can supply datasets in DICOM format for your planning software, along with optional radiology reports where requested.
Radiation safety & quality assurance
Our imaging protocols follow current IRMER guidance. Every exposure is justified, optimised and recorded, with regular quality assurance checks on image quality, dose and equipment performance.
We are happy to share dose information and QA details with referring practices who wish to keep their own radiation protection documentation up to date.

CBCT for dental implants
Implant planning is safer and more predictable with 3D information. CBCT scans show bone height and width, proximity to vital structures and sinus anatomy, helping your dentist choose the most appropriate implant position and size.
We can provide scans to support single-tooth implants through to full-arch cases, with fields of view tailored to your needs.
Wisdom teeth scans
For some lower wisdom teeth, a 2D X-ray is not enough to show whether the roots are close to the nerve. A small field-of-view CBCT scan can provide more accurate information and help your dentist assess risk before surgery.
We also support scans for impacted canines, supernumerary teeth and other complex surgical cases.
