What makes one CBCT cost more than another?
1. How much of the mouth is scanned
We charge per arch (upper or lower jaw). A scan for a single lower wisdom tooth is one arch. A full-mouth implant plan covering both jaws is two. This also keeps the scan, and the dose, matched to the question. UK guidance links a larger field of view with a higher dose, so the smallest area that answers the question is also the cheapest.
2. Whether a written report is included
Every CBCT volume has to be clinically evaluated, including areas outside the main question. Either your referring dentist does this, or a radiologist writes a formal report. We list the report separately (£115) so that you don’t pay for one you don’t need. When comparing quotes, ask whether a report is included and who writes it.
3. Whether you need a consultation first
UK law (IR(ME)R 2017) means no X-ray can be taken unless a practitioner has justified it. If your dentist has referred you, that clinical information comes with the referral. If you don’t have a dentist, we add a short consultation (£54) so a clinician can assess you. That might lead to a CBCT, a cheaper OPG, or advice that no scan is needed.
4. How the images are delivered
Our fees include secure digital delivery of DICOM files and JPG previews to the referring practice, with no charge for repeat downloads. Viewer software is available on request.
Worked examples
These are illustrations only. The scan you actually need is decided clinically.
- Lower wisdom tooth, referred by your dentist: one-arch CBCT, £139 per arch.
- Same scan, with a radiology report: £254.
- Both jaws for full-mouth implant planning, with report: £393.
- No dentist, want to check a problem tooth: consultation £54, plus whichever scan (if any) the clinician justifies. For example, with an OPG: £133.
Sometimes the cheaper scan is the right one
UK selection criteria say the lowest-dose examination that answers the clinical question should always be used. Often, that is also the cheapest. An OPG (£79) may be enough for a general overview, and a CBCT is added only when 3D detail is genuinely needed. We would rather tell you that than sell you a scan you don’t need. See CBCT vs OPG.
Is a CBCT available on the NHS?
CBCT is not a routine part of general dental check-ups. Whether an NHS service can provide one depends on your clinical need and on how you are referred. If you are under NHS care, ask your dentist or specialist about the options. Our scans are private, with fixed fees.
Questions worth asking any provider
- Is the price per arch, per region or for the whole mouth?
- Is a written radiology report included? If not, who evaluates the whole scan?
- Do I need a consultation first if I don’t have a dentist, and what does it cost?
- How will the files reach my dentist, and is there a charge?
- Will you use the smallest field of view that answers the question?
For referring practices
Dentists can refer without any online payment. The patient may pay a deposit when an appointment is booked, or we arrange payment with them. Fixed fees make it straightforward to quote patients in advance. See for dentists.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a CBCT scan at your Birmingham hub?
£139 per arch. If both jaws are needed, that counts as two arches. An endodontic (root canal) focused CBCT is charged per region at the same fee. See prices.
Is a radiology report included?
No. The report is optional at £115. Many routine cases don’t need one because your dentist reviews the scan. Reports are more often requested for implant planning, complex cases or suspected pathology.
Why do I pay a deposit?
When you book a specific appointment online, a £30 deposit secures the time. It is deducted from your fee on the day. If you would rather we call you to arrange a time, you can request a callback and pay nothing online.
Is the scan cheaper if I don’t have a dentist?
No. It costs slightly more overall, because a scan must be justified by a dentist before it is taken. Without a referring dentist, a short consultation (£54) is added so a clinician can assess you. The consultation may conclude that a cheaper OPG, or no scan, is the right answer.
Are there extra charges for sending the images to my dentist?
No. Secure digital delivery to your dentist is included, and there are no charges for repeat downloads. Viewer software can be provided on request.
