Closer than the address suggests

Often, an OPG is the right first step

Not everyone needs a 3D scan. Often, a straightforward panoramic X-ray (OPG) answers the question. A dentist may want an overview of wisdom teeth, missing teeth or bone levels. A clinic may have asked for a recent OPG before planning treatment. An OPG is quick, with seconds of exposure in a 5–10 minute appointment. It also uses a lower dose than a CBCT. It costs £79, including assessment.

If the OPG raises a question that needs 3D detail, such as a lower wisdom tooth root near the nerve or bone width at an implant site, a CBCT (£139 per arch) can be justified as a separate step. We can often do it on the same visit. See CBCT vs OPG.

No dentist? You can still be seen, the right way

UK radiation law (IR(ME)R 2017) says no X-ray may be taken unless it has been justified for you as an individual. So we can’t simply take a scan on request. If you don’t have a referring dentist, the booking form adds a short consultation (£54). A clinician assesses what you need, which may be an OPG, a CBCT or sometimes no X-ray at all. You see the price as you go, and nothing is paid until the last step. Booking a fixed time needs a £30 deposit, which is deducted on the day.

Frequently asked questions

Are you in Birmingham or Sandwell?

Both, in a sense. Our postal address is Great Barr, Birmingham B43, but the postcode B43 7AP falls within the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell. It is also in the West Bromwich parliamentary constituency.

What is the quickest way from West Bromwich by car?

The most direct route is the A4041 Newton Road to the Scott Arms, then north on the A34 Birmingham Road towards Walsall. That is about 4–5 miles, typically around 15 minutes. Alternatively, use the M5 and M6 to junction 7, which is about half a mile from the hub.

Can I get there by bus from West Bromwich?

Yes. Take the NX West Midlands 5 from West Bromwich bus station towards Sutton Coldfield. It runs along Newton Road. Get off at Gorse Farm, Bromford Walk near the Scott Arms. Then take the 51 or X51 from the Great Barr Scott Arms stops towards Walsall to Grove Vale, Chapel Lane, a short walk from the hub. Check times on the Network West Midlands journey planner.

A clinic has asked me for an OPG, but I don’t have a UK dentist. Can you help?

An OPG still has to be justified by a dentist under UK law. If you have no dentist referring you, our booking form adds a short consultation (£54) so a clinician can assess and justify the X-ray. The OPG is £79, including assessment.

Do you treat patients as well?

No. The hub is a diagnostic-only imaging service. After your scan, the images go to your dentist, who carries on with your care.

Ready to arrange a CBCT or OPG scan?

Book online in a few minutes, or call us if you are not sure which scan you need. Dentists can refer with the same form.
